Comics industry veteran Chris Ryall has joined the editorial team of Skybound Entertainment, the publisher announced via press release on Thursday. The news comes a little more than a month after Ryall announced his departure from the San Diego-based IDW Publishing, where he served as Editor-in-Chief and Chief Creative Officer.

Ryall’s exact title has not yet been determined, but the plan is for him to work alongside Skybound’s Senior Vice President and Editor-in-Chief, Sean Mackiewicz.

“As a fan of genre material and comic books all around, working with Skybound Entertainment is a natural fit for me,” Ryall said in Skybound’s announcement. “I’m excited to work with the team in place at Skybound and expand an already phenomenal library of content.”

Ryall joined IDW as Editor-in-Chief in June 2004, only the second person to hold that position at the publisher. In 2010, Ryall was named IDW’s first-ever Chief Creative Officer, while retaining the position of EiC.

Skybound, based in Los Angeles, was formed in 2010 by The Walking Dead and Invincible creator Robert Kirkman and his business partner David Alpert. Its publishing division is an Image Comics partner studio, and the company has branched out into a variety of entertainment platforms, including games, prose publishing, film and, of course, television.

“You’d have a hard time finding someone more well-liked in comics than Chris,” Kirkman said in a statement. “His mark on the comics industry is undeniable. I’ve admired his work from afar for many years and am thrilled for him to be part of the Skybound team.”

Skybound has informed CBR that more news on Ryall’s role at the company is expected soon.
