Anime Series Like Amagami SS

After being stood up on a Christmas Eve date, Juichi has a hard time opening himself up to romance. However, upon a chance meeting with several girls he is romantically interested in, he has hope that this year he can spend Christmas Eve with someone he truly loves.

Amagami SS is a favorite of many romance fans because of instead of being the usual harem romance, it uses the Omnibus format in which the romantic story of each different girl is explored and concluded before resetting time and starting the next. It is a great way to pack multiple love stories, and multiple girls, into one story. If you are looking for more anime series like Amagami SS, then check out these anime recommendations.

For Fans of Omnibus Story Format

Sky of Connection

Twins Haruka and Sora Kasugano are coming back to a town filled with memories for them. After their parents died in a horrible traffic accident, the twins want to start over peacefully at their grandfather’s house. However, it is their own suppressed memories and emotions that come back to haunt them.

The key thing that turns people off of this omnibus show is the incest element it has. However, that aside, its storytelling is exactly the same as Amagami SS. The timeline gets reset and you get to see the happy ending of each girl.

Seiren

Shouichi Kamita is at the point in his life where he is worried about his university entrance exams, but he also feels the new vexing emotion that is love. In this vein, he finds himself three girls that he could have a future with, and explores that.

Almost exactly like Amagami SS, you follow one boy who has relationships with three girls. They are each unique and the timeline resets after the romance is fully explored before moving onto the next girl. It is also worth noting that these are so similar because they were actually made by the same author, so…

The World God Only Knows

Keima Katsuragi is known as the “God of Conquest,” a man that can conquer any girl’s heart, at least in his dating sim games. However, when Keima arrogantly accepts an offer to prove his dating sim supremacy, he finds himself at the mercy of a demon that forces him to woo over real life girl.

This series has more of a supernatural and comedy bint than the rather serious Amagami SS. However, its supernatural device does allow it to use the Omnibus format in a more easily explained way. The guy is the best at dating sims, and thus must play a dating sim with real life girls. It provides some less touching romance, but much better comedy.

For Fans of Multiple Love Interests

Hatsukoi Limited

This is a tale of middle school and high school girls and their first loves. Each episode is its own love story, but those same couples may play other roles in the next love story.

Like Amagami SS, you get to view love from many different situations. Instead of following one boy, Hatsukoi Limited follows a series of girls as they fall in love. However, unlike Amagami SS where each new romance resets the time line, Hatsukoi continues it as the next character is introduced to fall in love.

Clannad

Tomoya Okazaki is a delinquent who finds everything dull and believes he will never amount to anything, that is, until a girl named Nagisa catches his eye one day on his way to school. Suddenly, Tomoya begins to notice Nagisa more and more. She is sickly and weak, but she always tries her best in order to follow her dream of reviving the school’s drama club. Claiming he has nothing better to do, he decides to help Nagisa, and along the way ends up helping several other girls and potential drama club members. However, as he learns more about the girls and helps them overcome their problems, he might just be able to overcome his own as well.

Similar to Amagami SS, you have one guy and many potential girls he could fall in love with because of Clannad’s visual novel origins. However, while Clannad does reset time at one point, it focuses on the guy helping many girls, but loving only one of them. If you enjoyed Amagami SS because he helps the girls with many problems, then Clannad can be a good way to follow up.

Amnesia

After fainting at work, a young lady awakens in the back room of the café she works at with no memory of her life or those around her. Two of her friends, whom she soon learns are named Shin and Toma, are called to help her get home safely. Once she is alone, she meets a spectral boy named Orion that only she can see and hear. He explains that she lost her memories because of his chance visit to her world, so he vows to help her remember who she is.

Like Amagami SS, Amnesia is a dating show. However, it is the reverse this time. In Amnesia, there are many guys and just one girl. While it doesn’t so much reset time, it does explore the relationships of this one girl with many who could be her lover.

For Fans of Slow-Paced Romances

Tsuki ga Kirei

For the first time in their third year, Azumi and Mizuno became classmates for the first time. These two, alongside their other classmates, relate to their peers through their feelings. As the year progresses, the group must come to face themselves as they mature and overcome challenges.

It can be said that many romance series rely too heavily on drama, and that drama can overwhelm any genuine feelings. However, both Amagami SS and Tsuki ga Kirei break free of that in their own ways. Amagami does it via the omnibus format since there is no time for much drama when things are kept compact and Tsuki ga Kirei just skips it altogether to craft a slow and touching tale of young love.

ReLife

Arata Kaizaki is an unemployed 27-year-old that has thus far been living with the financial support of his parents and part-time jobs. After leaving his first job after only three months, he has not been able to find proper work. However, after a night of drinking with his friends, he meets a mysterious man that offers a drunk Arata a pill that will turn him 17 again so that he can redo a year of his youth, all expenses paid. Will Arata find what he needs to live a happy life after one year in high school again?

While Amagami SS is dedicated to romance, the romance in ReLife is so slow you might not be able to spot it. The show solves this by focusing on a cute secondary couple because the main couple has a couple has a variety of obstacles in their way. Yet, if you are looking for a solid rom-com really highlighting awkward school life and love, both shows are pretty great.

Kimi ni Todoke

Due to her quiet nature and long black hair, Sawako Kuronuma’s kind deeds are often mistaken as malicious by her classmates. With the nickname of Sadako, like The Ring girl, people avoid her, but she still wants to make friends. When the popular Shouta Kazehaya begins to take notice of her, her fortunes might begin to change.

The romance in Amagami SS seems to move pretty fast because it has to cut other unnecessary elements to tell the core story. While Kimi ni Todoke also cuts out some of the unnecessary elements of a romance series, it fills them with more fulfilling content of friendship. However, while Kimi ni Todoke is the world’s slowest romance, it has a similar way of squeezing your heart like Amagami SS.
